Share Real Budgets With Context

A number without context is not useful.

“Colombia costs $1,500/month” or “Colombia costs $4,000/month” can both be true depending on the person.

When sharing a budget, include:

City
Neighborhood, if comfortable
Single, couple, family, retiree, or digital nomad
Rent or owned property
Furnished or unfurnished
Insurance setup
Transportation habits
How often you eat out
Whether you travel often
Whether you buy imported groceries
Visa/accountant/legal costs
Flights home
Pets, kids, school, or special healthcare needs

Colombia can be more affordable than the U.S., Canada, or parts of Europe, but the savings depend heavily on lifestyle and city. Bogotá, Medellín, Cartagena, Bucaramanga, Cali, Santa Marta, and the Coffee Axis are not the same budget.
