Having insurance is not the same as knowing how to use it.
Before choosing or relying on a plan, ask:
Is it direct-pay or reimbursement?
Which hospitals and clinics are in-network?
Do specialists require authorization?
Are pre-existing conditions excluded or limited?
Is emergency care covered?
Are prescriptions covered?
Does it cover care outside Colombia?
Does age affect renewal or premiums?
What documents are needed for claims?
For international insurance, save receipts, prescriptions, diagnoses, lab orders, and proof of payment. For local coverage, understand the difference between the insurer/health entity and the clinic or provider network.
This section is for experiences and practical navigation, not diagnosis. For symptoms, emergencies, medication changes, or treatment decisions, talk to a qualified medical professional.
