Medellín can feel easy at first: pleasant weather, beautiful valley views, cafés, coworking, nightlife, strong public transport, and neighborhoods that are comfortable for newcomers.
But living here is not the same as visiting.
Key things to understand:
El Poblado is convenient but can distort your budget.
Laureles can feel more residential and walkable.
Envigado and Sabaneta are calmer options for some people.
Hills matter when choosing an apartment.
Afternoon rain is normal.
The tourist/nomad bubble is real.
Spanish matters more the longer you stay.
Medellín’s Metro is one of the city’s biggest daily-life advantages. For 2026, the Metro lists frequent-user fare at COP $3,820 and the eventual/al portador fare at COP $4,400.
