Medellín’s Metro made me understand why people love this city

One of the first things that impressed me about Medellín was the Metro.

Not just because it works, but because people actually seem proud of it. There’s a different energy around it, cleaner, more orderly, and more respected than I expected from public transport in a big Latin American city.

I still use rideshare apps a lot, especially at night or when I’m carrying things, but the Metro has made the city feel much more manageable. And once you add the Metrocable views, it stops feeling like just transportation and starts feeling like a city experience.

For 2026, the Medellín Metro fare for frequent users is listed at COP $3,820, while the eventual/“al portador” fare is COP $4,400.

What was your first Metro or Metrocable experience like?
