It’s funny how “feeling at home” abroad is not always one big dramatic moment.
Sometimes it’s finding a bakery you actually like.
Sometimes it’s recognizing the cashier at your local grocery store.
Sometimes it’s realizing you no longer need Google Maps to get back home.
For me, it was the first time I gave directions to someone else and thought, “Wait… do I live here now?” 😂 and of course... SALSA!
What was your tiny “I’m starting to belong here” moment?
Mine was definitely public transport. The first time I got somewhere without checking my phone every 30 seconds, I felt like I had unlocked a new level.
Mmmmm... I used to know a guy Named Pierre Gagnon from Canada in what seems like a prior life.
To answer the question, though, being recognized & truly appreciated by the staff/management at my favorite restaurants makes me fell like I belong.
Probably starting a conversation with the uber driver when I get in the car versus just remaining silent. Or greeting neighbors in the building because that is the norm, especially when I do it first.

No upcoming events.
The first time I had a “usual” order at a café. That did more for my mental health than I expected.
