2 years in. Cali has a reputation. Some of it is real. Most of it isn't current. Honest read:

Real: Some neighborhoods are not for evening walks. Don't flash phones or watches in non-touristy areas. Petty crime is more common than in Medellín.

Overblown: The "violent crime hub" reputation is mostly 1990s-2000s. Daily life in San Antonio or Granada is calm and good.

Pragmatic: Pay attention. Use Uber after dark. Don't go to El Distrito at midnight in a Pacific-northwest hoodie. You'll be fine.
